Field and context

Al Shaheen lies offshore north-eastern Qatar, above the North Gas Field. Its laterally extensive, geologically complex reservoirs comprise thin, generally low-permeability Early Cretaceous intervals within the Kharaib, Shuaiba and Nahr Umr formations. The succession includes carbonate reservoirs and a thinner sandstone interval. Development relies heavily on long horizontal and extended-reach wells drilled from numerous fixed wellhead platforms across this giant mature oil field.
