Field and context

The Mittelplate field is Germany's largest oil field, producing from Middle Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. Discovered in 1981, production began in 1987. The field lies near the Wadden Sea tidal flats and contains a large fraction of Germany's crude reserves, developed with extended-reach drilling and offshore island infrastructure.
