Field and context

The Captain oil field lies in the Outer Moray Firth basin and produces heavy oil from Lower Cretaceous Captain Sandstone reservoirs. Discovered in 1977, the field is characterized by high porosity, high permeability sands and has been developed using horizontal wells and large-scale water injection to sustain production.
